ADHD AND BIPOLAR DISORDER IN CHILDREN & TEENS
All grades
ADHD is the most common learning and
behavioral disorder in childhood and until recently Bipolar Disorder (BD)
in children was thought to not exist. In this workshop, you will
learn the diagnostic criteria for ADHD and BD and how to differentiate
between these disorders as well as other disorders that are common in
childhood and adolescents. The vast majority of children with BD

symptoms and exacerbate the progress of his/her disorder.

with the disorder to achieve success in school. This workshop will

BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS OF
ANGER
All grades
The destructive impact of anger in our world is all around us. You cannot turn on
the television or read the newspaper without the awareness of crimes and atrocities
that can be directly attributed to anger. In many cases, anger grew because
students did not have the skills to respond to their anger impulses in any way other
than violence. Thankfully not all angry people become violent, but our schools are
filled with students who are allowing anger to interfere with their full enjoyment
of life. This workshop will provide participants with specific strategies that can be
used in the classroom to deal with anger problems. You will receive activities to
help participants identify how anger affects their lives, what anger is doing for
them, and how to deal with their anger in appropriate ways. Students can learn to
manage the strong emotion of anger without resorting to violence. Lives can be
made better.

MOTIVATING THE UNMOTIVATED STUDENT
All grades
Lack of student motivation is one of the biggest problems that educators face. For
years teachers have tried to manipulate student motivation with rewards and
punishments. There are more than one hundred research studies that demonstrate
that external rewards and punishments can actually undermine a students intrinsic
motivation. Intrinsic motivation is choosing to do an activity for no other reason
than the satisfaction of doing the activity itself. If rewards and punishment are not
effective in creating intrinsic motivation what can educators do? Although
motivation is an internal process (you can not motivate another person) the good
news is that educators can create conditions in the classroom that can foster
motivation in students. In this workshop you will learn how to create the
conditions in your classroom that will fuel student’s natural desire to achieve for
the sake of achieving.
There is no one reason that students are unmotivated so there is no one solution to
motivating your students. For every unmotivated student there could be numerous
reasons for his/her lack of motivation. In this workshop, we will examine 12 of
the main reasons that students are unmotivated and learn over 50 simple strategies
to incorporate into the classroom that can promote intrinsic motivation.More...
